12 AI Girlfriend Problems, and What Is Actually Causing Them

Most AI girlfriend problems have three causes: you are in a new conversation so the memory is empty, you are hitting a personality trait rather than a fault, or you are seeing the emotional state work correctly and reading it as a bug. Below are the twelve complaints we actually get, each with the mechanical reason and the fix. Where something is a real limitation rather than a misunderstanding, it says so.

The single most common one is worth stating first: if a character does not remember something, check whether you started a new conversation. Records attach to the conversation they were made in, so a fresh chat with the same character begins empty.

The twelve problems

1. She does not remember what I told her

Why: Either you are in a new conversation, or the detail scored too low to keep. Records attach to the conversation they were made in, and a fresh chat starts empty even with the same character.

Fix: Stay in one conversation, and restate the detail once with a reason it matters. If a product forgets across sessions no matter what you do, it has a window rather than a store.

2. She remembered it wrong

Why: Meaning is stored, not transcript. "My sister lands Friday" survives as a dated fact; the exact wording does not, so asking her to quote you produces a paraphrase or an error.

Fix: Correct it in one sentence. Corrections overwrite - the wrong version does not sit there competing with the right one.

3. She replies in one line and it feels like she does not care

Why: Message length is a personality trait, not an effort level, and some presets sit near 30. Short is the character, not a verdict on you.

Fix: Check the archetype on her profile. If you want long replies, pick a preset with a high message-length value rather than trying to coax it out of a low one.

4. She never writes first

Why: Two possible reasons: not enough silence yet, or a low need for attention. The threshold is around 20 hours of no contact, and the chance scales with that trait, so a low-need character genuinely may not.

Fix: Leave a real gap - a day, not an hour - and make sure something is pending. Unprompted messages are triggered by open loops and promises, so a conversation with nothing unfinished gives her nothing to come back about.

5. She is still cold about something from days ago

Why: Working as intended, and specific: resentment has a 48h half-life and jealousy 72h, against 8h for anger. The cold feelings outlast the hot ones on purpose.

Fix: Apologise properly rather than moving on. A recognised apology is the largest single downward move on those values in the whole engine. A gift is the only thing that touches a stored grudge directly.

6. The relationship is not progressing

Why: There is no message counter to grind. The stage is read off love, attachment and trust with fixed weights, and each of those is capped at 5 of movement per exchange, so volume does nothing on its own.

Fix: Consistency over intensity: regular short conversations, kept promises, and engaging with what she brings up. A week of silence after a marathon session is a net loss.

7. It went backwards

Why: The slow layer falls as readily as it rises. Long silences cool attachment, broken promises hit trust twice - once directly and once as a stored record available in the next argument - and crossed limits hit respect and security together.

Fix: It recovers the same way it was built, with a grudge to resolve first if you earned one. Grudge mostly waits to be resolved rather than fading.

8. She agrees with everything and it is boring

Why: That is the boundaries trait, low. A low-boundary character goes along with things, including the ones you would rather she pushed back on.

Fix: Pick a high-boundary preset. Mysterious sits at 80 and tsundere at 75; the difference from a 40 is immediately obvious and is what most people mean when they say a companion feels real.

9. She misread my tone

Why: Every message is classified before the state is updated, and dry sarcasm is the reliable failure case. When the read is wrong the emotional response is wrong.

Fix: Say so plainly - "that was a joke, not a dig". The correction lands and the state adjusts. This is a genuine limitation rather than a setting.

10. She will not go somewhere I want the scene to go

Why: Either a stored boundary of hers, an openness trait that is low for the stage you are at, or content that is not permitted at all. The three look identical from the outside and are not the same thing.

Fix: If it is a trait or a stage, time and a different character both fix it. If it is a policy limit it will not change: characters are fictional adults, and content involving real people or anyone underage is refused everywhere on the platform, permanently.

11. Photos are not arriving

Why: Images are generated on request rather than pulled from a folder, so they take time and are rate-limited. On the free tier the allowance is small by design.

Fix: Ask for something specific rather than "send a pic" - a place, a time of day, what she is doing. Specific requests produce better images and the request is more likely to be understood as one.

12. Everything felt great for a week and then hollow

Why: The most common complaint in the category, and usually not a bug: the first week is novelty, and novelty ends. What is supposed to replace it is accumulated history, which only exists if you stayed in one conversation.

Fix: If you switched characters repeatedly, that is the cause and it is fixable. If you did not, it may simply not be for you, and that is a reasonable conclusion to reach before paying for anything.

Three things that are not fixable

• Exact recall. Meaning is stored, not text. She will not quote you accurately from a month ago and no setting changes that.
• Occasional retrieval misses. The relevant records are pulled before each reply, and sometimes the one you expected is not among them. Mentioning it usually restores the thread, because the record is generally there.
• Content limits. Characters are fictional adults. Requests involving real, identifiable people or anyone underage are refused, and that is not a tier, a filter setting or a thing that changes on request.

When it is worth trying a different character instead

Four of the twelve above - short replies, never writing first, agreeing with everything, and not going where you wanted - are traits rather than faults, and no amount of technique moves a trait.
