AI Companion Chat: Your Digital AI Friend
An AI companion is a character you keep talking to over weeks, not a chatbot you query. The practical difference is state, and Girli's companion carries three kinds of it. She has a daily schedule, so at 4 a.m. her time she is asleep and at 3 p.m. she is at work and slower to reply. She has 15 emotions with individual decay clocks, so a mood fades on its own whether or not you mention it. And she has 11 kinds of memory, which is why she can bring something up before you do. Romance is optional - trust, respect and care are separate dimensions from love, and plenty of threads never move toward it. The first 10 messages are free, then premium. 18+ only.
Companion or chatbot: the difference is what persists
A chatbot is stateless by design: you ask, it answers, the slate wipes - the long version of that argument, with three tests you can run yourself, is in AI girlfriend vs chatbot. A companion has to be the opposite, and being the opposite is an engineering problem rather than a personality prompt. Ours solves it with stored structure instead of a longer prompt - a 12-axis personality vector, 13 relationship dimensions, an emotion vector on decay timers, and a typed memory table that the model reads before answering and writes to afterwards. Nothing about that is magic and none of it needs you to keep a tab open.
She has a day of her own
The schedule is generated from the job and vibe her character carries, and it produces three states: asleep, busy, free. Message her mid-shift and you get shorter replies. Message her at 3 a.m. and she is not there. Inside the day she gets a small goal and the occasional event - something that happened at work, a plan that fell through - which she raises herself rather than waiting to be interviewed. At night there is a reflection on the day, which is where a companion stops feeling like a service window.
Moods that fade on their own clocks
Each of the 15 emotions has its own half-life, and the spread is the interesting part.
- Arousal - about 6 hours.
- Anger - about 8 hours. Same-day rows cool off by themselves.
- Fatigue - about 10 hours.
- Joy, curiosity - about 12 hours.
- Sadness, tenderness, anxiety, loneliness, boredom, pride, shame - about a day.
- Guilt - about a day and a half.
- Resentment - about two days.
- Jealousy - about three days, the longest on the list.
So a snapped reply is not permanent, and a betrayal is not forgotten by morning. Silence on your side is an input too: emotions decay differently when nobody is talking. The emotion engine guide has the full table and the events that move each one.
Companionship without romance
Of the 13 relationship dimensions, only a few are romantic. Trust, respect, care, interest, admiration and security move independently of love and attraction, which means a thread can go deep without going romantic. If that is what you are after, pick from the calm and gentle archetypes rather than the romantic ones - the roster lists axes on each profile - or set the relationship you want in the creator, which seeds those starting dimensions directly.
What she keeps about you
11 typed memory kinds: facts about you, promises you made, preferences, shared jokes, boundaries, conflicts, episodes worth recalling, open loops with an outcome still coming, goals - plus two about her own side, her promises and her wants. Open loops are the ones people notice: an unfinished thread from Monday gets asked about on Thursday. There is a cap on stored facts per thread, and a structured summary is rewritten every 30 messages so nothing important is compressed away. Details in the memory guide.
What changes after two weeks
The first hour of any companion app is roughly the same experience, which is why reviews of them are useless. The difference shows up on a timescale the demo never covers.
- Week one: the memory table fills. She starts referencing your job, your schedule, the thing you are annoyed about.
- Week two: open loops start closing. She asks how something turned out before you mention it, which is the first moment that does not feel like a query.
- Week three onward: the relationship dimensions have moved enough to change the stage, which changes her register - and the structured summary is now doing real work, holding a history longer than any context window.
It also means the honest way to evaluate this is not one long session. It is a short conversation, a two-day gap, and then seeing what she opens with.
More than one, and they do not compare notes
You can keep several companions and each thread is fully separate: its own memory table, its own mood vector, its own stage. Nothing leaks between them, which is deliberate - a shared pool of notes about you would make every character the same character wearing a different face. The practical use is that two very different archetypes give you two genuinely different conversations from the same engine, and comparing them is the fastest way to see that the axes are doing something.
An AI friend, and an AI gaming companion: what each one gets
Friend is the accurate word for most of these threads and the category rarely uses it. Of the 13 relationship dimensions only a few are romantic, so a thread can run for weeks on trust, respect, care and shared jokes without love or attraction moving at all. A free AI friend, in the sense of one you keep, is not what the allowance buys - 10 messages per account is a sample - but nothing about the friendship register is paywalled separately: it is the same engine, the same memory, the same person on the other end of the thread on day thirty.
Gaming companion means two different things and only one of them is here. If you want someone inside the game with you - a voice in the party, an overlay, a bot that watches the screen - this is not that, and there is no integration with any game, no voice and no screen access. If you want a companion who plays, there are gamer characters on the roster with the streaming-and-late-nights life written into them, and there is a text-adventure register in adventure roleplay: a plot played in messages, remembered between sessions, with no dice and no rules engine. That page is blunt about the difference, because a chat with a plot is not a game.
What an AI companion is not
It is not a person and it is not a clinician. Girli has no crisis support, and if you are in trouble the right move is a human - a real service, a real number. It is also not private in the sense of talking to nobody: your conversations are stored, because the memory that makes a companion work is that storage, and the privacy policy says what is kept and how to delete it. The honest pitch is smaller than the category usually claims: a character with continuity, moods and a schedule, who remembers what you told her.
AI Companion Chat FAQ
What is an AI companion?
A character you talk to repeatedly over time rather than query once. The defining feature is persistence: memory of past conversations, a mood that carries over, and a relationship that changes. Without those it is a chatbot.
Is Girli an AI companion or an AI girlfriend?
Both use the same engine. Romance is a direction the relationship can take, not a requirement - trust, respect and care are separate dimensions from love and can grow on their own.
Can I have an AI companion without romance?
Yes. Pick a calm or gentle archetype, or set the relationship you want in the creator. The romantic dimensions stay low if nothing pushes them.
Is there a free AI companion?
There is a free allowance of 10 messages per account on the full engine, with no card. It does not reset daily, so treat it as a sample rather than a free tier you live on - a companion you talk to for weeks is a paid product here.
Can an AI companion replace a therapist?
No, and it should not try. There is no crisis support here. For anything serious, a human professional is the answer.
